What joy to welcome my guest blogger today. Wife, mom, and writer extraordinaire, Dawn Bata is a new friend. When you read her short post, you’ll want to click on the book photo link at the bottom to check out her ebook. Her bio is there as well.

You may want to purchase the ebook or recommend it to a friend, relative, or neighbor who needs encouragement. I’m loving these short but powerful devotions with endearing stories.   Here’s Dawn’s post:

Help a Sister Out

When our middle daughter, Sophia, was eight years old, she ran her first season of track…and her last. The track meet was underway, but unbeknown to Jeremy and me, Sophia was assigned the mile event. What was her coach thinking? Sophia had never run the mile event before! Eager to see the outcome, we waited.

The event started and off she went. Our family began shouting, “Go, Sophia!” She was making great strides, but our excitement soon turned to concern. Her pace slowed and the look of defeat was written all over her sweaty face. Sophia was out of steam. What happened next melted my heart. Big sister Meredith dashed onto the track to finish the mile with her.

Victory! Not in the means of winning the race, but in winning at life. Although Meredith was ten years old, in the eyes of her little sister, she was a hero. They finished the race together. Way to help a sister out!

Isn’t that what we are called to do? To run the race of life together, alongside our sisters in Christ? First Thessalonians 5:11 says, “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as you are doing.”

Go ahead, and cheer on your sisters in Christ! We don’t have to run this race alone! Motherhood is a marathon, entailing long distances, deep breaths, and determination. Some days we need a friend to run alongside us to encourage us. Together we are stronger and more impactful.

If you see a sister facing hurdle after hurdle, overwhelmed, and discouraged, offer her a hand and finish the race together in His love and strength. Help a sister out!

  4. Great encouragement as well as a challenge. It doesn’t matter whether you are sisters because of DNA or sisters because of Christ , just walking alongside, without saying a word, with someone, speaks volumes to their heart in a special language , Love you Dawnie

    • Yes! Simply being there for someone in their time of need, without saying a word , is so powerful!
      God Bless you, Anne

  5. Dawn, What a beautiful story! My big sister has always been there cheering me on. She’s my biggest fan and cheerleader in my writing journey. I loved reading this. Blessings to you and all our sisters out there.

  6. What a beautiful story. I got to witness this type of love for a sister this week. My daughter-in-love dropped everything to run to the aid of her dear, and terribly overwhelmed, friend. Her presence and comfort gave her friend exactly what she needed to make it through that day and the next. We all need true friends like that. And like Meredith. Thanks for sharing this beautiful story!!

    • Jean, thank you for sharing! True friends are a gift from God. What a wonderful example of God’s love in action that your daughter in love showed to her friend. Simply beautiful.

  7. I am thankful for all the wonderful mentors God has placed in my life over the years. I think back on the older ladies at church who invited me to Bible Study when I was a teenager. I appreciate the younger and older women in my life. They have all provided valuable experience and lessons. 🙂

    • Melissa, you are exactly right! God uses sisters in Christ of all ages to influence our lives! May we all strive to be Godly examples to reach others for Him.
      Thank you for sharing!

What an awesome thought. Just think what our world would be like if we all supported and encouraged each other! To think… that God sometimes sends that encouragement through us at the perfect time someone really needs it! Thanks for the inspiring words, Dawn!

  9. This is a great reminder all the time but especially during these trying times. We are meant to build each other up not tear each other down. Dawn’s encouraging words are such an inspiration.

    • I am thrilled you were encouraged by my story! Yes, we all need friends to walk alongside us and point us to Jesus when life gets tough.

Thank you for the encouraging and inspiring reminder to build one another up. It is also so wonderful to read stories of siblings getting along and loving each other. Heartwarming.

    • Carolyn, friends are God’s sweet reminders of His love! There is always a friend in need of encouragement and I am thankful you, dear friend, run this race of life alongside me.

  14. This is a beautiful story, Dawn, and a tribute to your parenting–that big sister stepped in (ran in) to help her younger sibling. A wonderful example of how we should all intercede for our sisters and brothers. Thank you for brightening and blessing my day!

  15. Such a sweet story and message, Dawn! Thank you for sharing your life and heart with us! Love you.

    • Tabitha, thank you for your sweet comment. So happy to do life with you, my friend!

  16. Indeed Ms. Dawn. In helping another, we both complete the journey for which we were called. Amazingly, I’ve learned that both may be on a different path to reach the same destination. Helping another does not delay your arrival, it enhances it. Wonderful post. God’s blessings ma’am; and thank you for the introduction Ms. Jeannie.

  17. J.D., I love that, “ We complete the journey for which we are called.” What an honor to touch the lives of others for God’s glory! Thank you for your insight.
So thankful Mrs. Jeannie introduced us.
    God Bless you.

  18. This is such a sweet story! It’s also a great reminder to encourage other ladies whether by a small or big gesture! So thankful for you!! There’s nothing like a great friend.

    • Lori, so true! Choosing to cheer on our sisters in big or small ways is a wonderful way to demonstrate God’s love.
      Friends are sisters by choice!
Blessed to have you in my life!

  19. Dawn- I loved your words!
It is the TRUTH to watch the miracles that sisterhood presents. What a gift to you- as a mommy (and an amazing one at that) to have the honor of watching your girls support each other like that. They are examples of true love. As we all need to be to each other as sisters right now more than ever.
    Lifting. Xoxoxox

    • Jen, thank you! I am a blessed mama!
I pray we all will cheer on our sisters and spread positivity in these uncertain times. Xoxo

  20. Dawn, thank you for sharing your story and reminding us all how important it is to encourage each other everyday. I know sometimes I feel like I can do it all on my own but as Christians we know we need God’s help and His help many times is sending others to encourage us. Keep up the great writing!

  21. What a beautiful story illustrating the joy that comes from encouraging and walking alongside someone- if they’re struggling and need encouragement or when succeeding and we applaud rather than compete. Nice meeting you in my dear friend Jeannie’s blog.

    • Marilyn, nice meeting you! What a blessing to be the hands and feet of Jesus, isn’t it? God bless you!
