Are you searching for the perfect Mother’s Day gift? Consider books—gifts that keep on giving. Flowers and candy are delightful gifts and are fun to receive, but books last longer. You can reread them, donate them, or give them to a friend when you’re finished.

Please share your favorite Mother’s Day memory or a suggestion for blessing another woman.
We have a tendency to forget shut-in people, especially those with no family close by.
Drive a shut-in around the area to enjoy the flowering season.
Does your mom, or the mom of a friend living faraway, have boxes of photos? Older people don’t necessarily have them on a computer or smart phone. Sit with her, help arrange pictures. Most importantly, listen to the story behind each photo.
My mother was my first Sunday School teacher. Some of my earliest memories are of my sister and me lying in bed with my parents while they told us Bible stories. I was in the first grade when Mama helped me memorize “the Christmas story” from Luke 2 and, later, Psalm 1. This became the passage of scripture from which I’ve attempted to model my life. I love my Mama.
Thank you for sharing these special memories of your mom. I’m glad I was able to know her, a precious woman who valued God’s Word. I appreciate you reading and thank you for sending the books to us.
Peggy, thank you for sharing practical ideas to bless someone. Small gestures can brighten a day. You reminded me how my mom would take my aunt to ride around to see flowers or fall foliage. What a blessing to bring joy to another person.
A call, card, or visit can be a wonderful gift for a shut-in. Some fresh flowers to brighten their day may be welcome. It depends on each person’s circumstances. Sadly, I don’t reach out to others as much as I would like to–and certainly not as much as I need to, Thank you for your reminder, Jeannie and for your encouragement. Happy Mother’s Day to you, Katherine. You wisely mentioned our gifts or acts of kindness depending on individual circumstances. Fresh flowers would mean more than a book to some moms. I need to reach out more, too, but we’re growing in Christ as we walk with Him daily and seeing more opportunities.

I love sending cards via snail mail. I participate in a group that mails cards to nursing homes and rehabilitation centers every week. A simple gesture can brighten the day of the sender and the receiver.
Melissa, what a wonderful ministry. My mom loved receiving cards from fellow church members. Your cards no doubt make recipients aware they aren’t forgotten. I’m sure they enjoy showing the cards to others. What a beautiful way to brighten someone’s day. I’m sure sending them brightens days for the senders as well.

Your book ideas are spot on for different mothers in different stages of life. I have a friend that sends me Mother’s Day cards as well as other holiday cards. It’s always encouraging to read her notes. These days, a funny GIF is easily texted to friends and family.

Some great book gift ideas here Ms. Jeannie. I think some of my most cherished and long-held gifts are books that were given to me. Some have inscriptions in them from the giver and a few from my author friends. When I take one of these off the shelf and open the cover to read the heartfelt words, it moves me to this day. Love this idea and you have some tremendous recommendations ma’am. God’s blessings.
